Academy Art Museum The Museum is pleased to present its annual Mid-Shore Student Art Exhibition. This exhibition highlights the artistic talents of K-12 students from Talbot, Caroline, Dorchester, Queen Anne and Kent counties. As in past years, visitors can expect a variety of media, including painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, and printmaking. The Mid-Shore Student Art Exhibition has been a Museum tradition for over 25 years and are the largest and most prestigious student art exhibition on the Eastern Shore

ANNUAL EVENTS & FESTIVALS
Chesapeake Film Festival is in its 4th year and brings unique film and discussion to the area. Its mission is to entertain, enrich and inspire by bringing the finest in narrative, documentary and short film to the Chesapeake Bay community. The films we intend to showcase are broadly focused to illuminate both the diversity and the universality of the human condition. The tag is Watch. Think. Discuss. Viewing locations are spread across Easton and this year's event is September 18-20.
Chesapeake Chamber Music Festival will be held June 7 through June 21, 2015 at venues in and around Easton. Guided by Artistic Directors J. Lawrie Bloom, Principal Bass Clarinet of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and Marcy Rosen, founding member of the world-renowned Mendelssohn String Quartet, this year’s festival promises to be the best ever, with 20 renowned artists, commissioned works for the Festival, and several new venues to delight our audiences.
Festival of Trees Since 1986, the Friends of Hospice has carried out its mission to raise funds for Talbot Hospice Foundation by sponsoring the annual Festival of Trees. This event continues be immensely successful and is made possible through the work of hundreds of volunteers. The Festival annually assists with Hospice's operating budget which benefits terminally ill people living in Talbot County. The events schedule has expanded over the years.
First Night Talbot is Easton's New Years Eve celebration. Covered by CNN last year, the famous crab drop was seen around the world! Festivities begin at 6pm and include a host of family-friendly activities in varying locations in Downtown Easton.
Frederick Douglass Day is organized by the Frederick Douglass Honor Society. This event occurs at the end of September and is a day long celebration of the life of Talbot County's most famous native son. A parade, live music, speeches and a tour of "The Hill" neighborhood will take place. Food and craft vendors are present during this free family event.
Great Chesapeake Balloon Festival is a fun family event to benefit the Talbot Paramedic Foundation. Large vibrant hot air balloons are on display during the Balloon Glow then they ascend in the sky twice during the festival (Friday night and Saturday morning). Activities include GLOW VIP party (hosted by AQUA Pools & Spas), passenger flights, tethered balloon rides, walkabout balloons as well as crafts and other vendor displays.
Juneteenth Celebration is hosted by the Academy Art Museum and is one of the most important African American holidays in the country - it marks the abolition of slavery. It commemorates the date – June 19, 1865 – when the slaves in Galveston, Texas first received the word of the Emancipation Proclamation, which Abraham Lincoln had issued two and one-half years earlier on January 1, 1863. The day of celebration includes performances of African dance and music, local church choirs, inspirational readings by emerging young leaders, art projects for children and families, a “knowledge fair" that showcases African-American community organizations and programs, and food and craft vendors.
Monty Alexander Jazz Festival Jazz on the Chesapeake produces this festival, held on Labor Day weekend in historic Easton. Monty Alexander first performed in Easton in 2009. Response to his concert was so overwhelming that the Board of the Chamber Music Festival decided to launch an annual Jazz Festival during Labor Day weekend 2010. Monty Alexander was invited to lend his name to the Festival and to serve as its Artistic Director.
Plein Air Easton is the largest and most prestigious juried plein air painting competition in the United States. In its 11th year, it is held annually in Easton, Maryland each July. Plein air painters produce art from life (as opposed to in the studio). Artists from all over the United States and beyond apply to this competition. There will be 58 competing artists that will paint throughout Talbot County, Maryland the week of July 7-17th, 2016. The Avalon Foundation produces this event.
Waterfowl Festival is Easton's largest festival to spans over a 3-day period. Around 45 years ago, a group of ambitious enthusiasts envisioned an event that would share with visitors the unique Eastern Shore heritage that they treasured, in the hopes of preserving it before it was lost, while raising funds to protect the wildlife and habitat that were integral to the area’s way of life. The event has grown to include many exhibits spread across Easton as well as other waterfowl related components like fly fishing, calling competitions, dock dog competitions. The festival also hosts a wine and beer pavilion as well as kids events like a fishing derby, crafts and other educational and fun activities.
