Year of the Woman

2020 Nominations

Discover Easton and Talbot Spy partner for Year of the Woman profiles.

Following Governor Larry Hogan’s proclamation naming 2020 Maryland’s Year of the Woman, Discover Easton is proud to partner with Talbot Spy in announcing a focus on Easton’s female leaders throughout the coming year. Nominations are now being accepted for women that you feel deserve to be profiled and recognized for their leadership, service, or other accolades to the Town of Easton. From those nominations, 12 will be chosen to be profiled on DiscoverEaston.com and the Talbot Spy throughout 2020.

Governor Hogan named 2020 the Year of the Woman in honor of the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment, which gave all sexes the right to vote in the United States. In honor of the proclamation, there will be events throughout the state celebrating Maryland women both past and present.

“We are excited to not only celebrate the women that help shape Easton into one of the great towns in the United States, but to do so with a partner like Dave Wheelan and the Talbot Spy team,” Discover Easton Executive Director Ross Benincasa said. “From our female entrepreneurs, to our doctors, teachers, legislators, and philanthropists, Easton’s success is quite literally built on the backs of the many women that make an impact here everyday, and it is time we give them the spotlight they deserve.”

All women nominated will be featured by Discover Easton and the Talbot Spy, of which 24 will be selected for in-depth profiles throughout the year.

Dave Wheelan, publisher of the Talbot Spy, says this is way overdue. “Frankly, we should have started this tradition many years ago. There is such remarkable women in Easton whose stories should be told. I think it’s a great way to honor them and motivate other women to join their ranks.”
